Women have been pursuing careers in law enforcement for many reasons, some include:
- The desire to help people on an everyday basis.
- Every day brings forth a different situation than the last, and a police officer has to be ready and prepared for each one.
- The excitement that comes with the job.
- Majority of women in policing have the rank of “officer”
- The next largest group for women in policing rank is “Sergeant”
A few primary reasons why females continue their career in law enforcement:
- Job security, police officers are always going to be in demand.
- Job pay scale is gender neutral: at the same rank - Males and Females make the same amount of money
- As stated previously, the desire to help people on an everyday basis, keeps police officers returning to help others.

- Second largest group is African-American
- Nationally, 2.3% of officers are African-American
- 1.4% are other minority females
