It has been reported that women feel less welcome and are treated worse than their male counterparts. The majority of women plan on staying inside of law enforcement as their career. The top reasons for a woman to be leaving her job as a police officer would be because of personal/political reasons or she is pursuing another career within the criminal justice field.
Stereotypes place a huge role in women that are in policing. One of the major ones is that officers that are aggressive and physical while performing their duties are labeled as “butch” and can be stereotyped as a lesbian. Whereas women that are less aggressive, less physical and nurturing are usually not stereotyped as lesbians.
